Motor Book reviews
Like you, I'm a Do it Yourselfer. I buy books on classic car restoration topics, chevy small block engines and other mechanical topics because I want to do the work myself. I like working on complex problems, partly motivated by saving money and partly by the satisfaction of a job well done. Overall I just like working with my hands but still applying my brain. Learning how talented professionals do the things I like to do allows me to apply the knowledge creatively, knowing I'm using proven techniques.
You'll find some of these books on Amazon.com, which is where I get most of my motor books (used) since I can get them cheaper than the publishers price for a new one. This past year (2008) I've read books on Quadrajet carburators, chevy cylinder head books and rebuilding chevy small blocks.

When I buy a book on chevy engine topics, I'm especially fond of authors that present ways to accomplish something without a major investment in specialty tools or expensive services that someone else might provide. If the author can show me ways to do something myself, get a better deal on parts or tools, and plainly explain how, then I'll buy more of his books. For this reason you may see reviews on more than one book by the same author.
Don't be mislead when I say I'm not trying to make a major investment in tools or equipment. I won't hesitate to spend money on something that will save me a lot of time getting something accomplished or help me produce a better result. After all, I still have a day job and spare time doesn't come easily to a married man with kids.
I'm sure you'll enjoy these books as much as I did. As I get the reviews done, I'll add them to the categories I've outlined below.
